Public Consultation on ‘Draft Interim Standards for New Directions, Services and Supports for Adults with Disabilities’

October 8th, 2014

The HSE is publishing “Draft Interim Standards for New Directions, Services and Supports for Adults with Disabilities” for public consultation for a period of 6 weeks from 8th September to 17th October 2014.

These Draft Interim Standards arise from recommendations in “New Directions, the review of HSE Day Services and Implementation Plan”, published in 2012. New Directions sets out twelve supports that should be available to people using ‘day services’. It proposes that ‘day services’ should take the form of individualised outcome-focussed supports to allow adults using those services live a life of their choosing in accordance with their own wishes, needs and aspirations.

St. Cronans services have been asked to bring this public consultation to the attention of our service users and their families. The National Disability Authority has been working on the draft standards and their website contains a number of links to the draft standards.  An Easy to Read Guide to the Draft Interim Standards for New Directions has been prepared for this public consultation. The Easy to Read Guide is also available in four separate parts, formatted for use in facilitated consultation sessions.

You can download the following documents below:

Memorial Garden

November 14th, 2013

Memorial Garden

The willows group started this project in September 2012.  The group designed the layout of the garden themselves.  This included a patio area, a bench to sit on and a low maintenance garden which was planted with shrubs and a mulch of bark chips was placed around them.  The clients made the bench themselves and the bird table to encourage wildlife.

We made a raised flower bed which was planted with summer bedding plants which they grew from seed themselves.  The clients now enjoy sitting and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings.  The group decided to dedicate this garden to a deceased former member of the group and a plaque was erected in his memory.

Team Hope – Christmas Box Appeal

November 14th, 2013

Team Hope

Service users are busy helping “Team Hope” with their Christmas shoe box appeal.  This has become an annual event in St. Cronans; it provides service users with the ideal oppurtunity to give something back to the community.

The shoeboxes are covered with Christmas paper and filled with items for children.  Service users here in St. Cronans look forward to this project each year.  The boxes are then sent to various destinations around the world for distribution to Children living on the Margins of Society, victims of war, disease or poverty.
