On the 15th of February Senior Officer Martin Moore from Tipperary Fire & Rescue Services gave a presentation to the R.T group on community safety and safety in the home. This is important information to support maximising independence within the home and community. The session was delivered under Support Number 5 of New Directions – Support for maximising independence.
St Cronans use an evidence based assessment tool “This is how I manage” with all RT participants. The results of this assessment tool identify where people require additional supports and the results are used to formulate the annual curriculum for the Rehabilitation Training programme, so that the programme is tailored to meet the actual needs of those who study with us. This curriculum consists of three core strands of focus:
Each core strand consists of many modules and as part of Health, Safety & Wellbeing 2 main areas were highlighted and covered by the Fire and Rescue Services.
The talk/presentation presented by Martin Moore supported this learning goal and the information presented was visual in content so that it was accessible and easy to understand.
Thanks to Martin and the Tipperary Fire and Rescue Service for supporting our work.
St Cronan’s Association Nenagh raise money for North Tipperary Hospice
More than 50 members of the public attended our recent coffee morning held to raise money for the hospice in our services in Melrose, Nenagh. Mary Frend (Service Co-ordinator) was delighted with number of people who attended. Visitors included parents and their friends, people using services at RehabCare and Riverdale Nursing Home, Melrose neighbours and many people who staff and those using the Nenagh services have engaged with in the local community in recent years. A total of €561 was raised for North Tipp hospice. Mary explains “Days like this are so important as they allow us to reach out to the community, give something back and also empower the people who use our services to be active citizens and support local causes, in line with national policy New Directions.” We extend our thanks to The Thatch in Ballycommon for lending us many cups and plates to make the event possible and thanks to photographer Bridget Delaney who captured the event on camera.

Visit to Thomond Park
On the 6/9/2017 Stuart O’Mahony, Michael Fennelly, Eddie Moroney and Anthony Shoer left St Cronans in Roscrea for the long awaited visit to Thomond Park .
They had the full stadium tour of the museum and a film plus a visit to the pitch side, the dressing rooms and post-match interview area. The spectacularly interactive museum showcases the proud heritage of Munster rugby and features an impressible range of memorabilia. ‘We are Munster’ portrays the tradition and history of the club and the unique bond it shares with its loyal supporters. After the tour the boys went to the Parkway Shopping Centre for some lunch a great day was had by all.
