Parish Centre Clients trip to Kilmainham Gaol
March 15th, 2016A Day Trip to Kilmainham Gaol
Clients at the Parish Centre have for the past year, being planning a trip to Dublin to visit Kilmainham Gaol. This project was designed and implemented by the clients and received guidance from their Senior Instructor, Patrick Collins. Areas that they significantly contributed to included:
Research into choice of venue,
Identification of the most suitable transport,
Estimated costs,
Development of a savings scheme &
Communication with their families & their service provider.
All went to plan. We left Nenagh on the scheduled 8.35 bus and were at the gates of Kilmainham Gaol in plenty of time for the 11.30 tour of the historic complex. Clients paid their entry fee from their savings and following a 50 minute tour presented by an energised and knowledgeable tour guide it was back to Heuston Station for some food before we travelled back down the country on the bus that had been identified by the clients as part of their planning a trip activity.
Our tour presented us with some bleak facts about the prison and its prisoners from its limestone construction, through the famine era to the 1916 rebellion and its aftermath. The tourist got to experience the hostile conditions of this prison as our photo’s show.
